Conditions & Notices
- • Mandatory fasting: The child must fast for at least 8 hours (preferably 8-12 hours) before the sample is taken for fasting glucose testing. Only water is allowed during the fasting period.

Generally, the morning dose of insulin or other diabetes medication should not be taken before the blood sample is drawn to avoid hypoglycemia during fasting. The medication should be taken after the blood draw and immediately after eating.
- Timing of the sample: It is preferable to collect the sample in the early morning.
- • Disclosure of medications: Inform the laboratory of any other medications the child is taking, as some may affect blood sugar levels.
