- Fasting is not required.
- Sample preparation instructions are crucial: It is usually required to refrain from using medicated shampoos, dyes, conditioners, or gels for 2-4 weeks prior to the sample collection. Use only mild, non-medicated baby shampoo.
- The sample (about one teaspoon) is taken from the back occipital region of the scalp, as close to the skin as possible (the first 3-4 cm from the hair roots).
- The sample is placed in a clean (non-plastic) paper envelope and sent to the laboratory.
- The laboratory may request information about the natural hair color and the use of chemicals on it.
