2-Hour Postprandial Insulin Test

This test measures plasma insulin levels two hours after a standardized carbohydrate meal. It reflects the ability of pancreatic beta cells to reactively release insulin in response to the rise in blood glucose levels after eating. It is primarily used in conjunction with postprandial glucose (PPG) testing to assess insulin resistance (where insulin is too high relative to glucose) or impaired insulin secretion (where insulin is insufficiently low).
