- Fasting: Fasting from food is not required, but foods containing vanillin (such as bananas, chocolate, tea, coffee, vanilla) should be avoided for 48-72 hours before and during sample collection.
- Collect urine accurately for 24 consecutive hours in a designated container containing acid as a preservative.
- All medications must be reported to the doctor; some (such as certain antidepressants and decongestants) may be required to be stopped for a few days prior to the examination under medical supervision.
- Avoid extreme physical and emotional stress and intense athletic activity during the sample collection period.
