Conditions & Notices
- Fasting is not required. It is preferable to collect the sample before showering or applying any creams or ointments to the breast area.
- You must inform your doctor or the laboratory about all antibiotics or antifungals you are currently taking or have recently taken, as these can inhibit microbial growth and produce a false-negative result. It may be recommended that you discontinue them for a period of time before the sample is taken, under medical supervision.
- The sample should be collected in a sterile tube or on a special sterile swab and transported to the laboratory as soon as possible (usually within two hours).
- Contamination of the sample with skin microbes should be avoided by thoroughly cleaning the area before collection.
