Conditions & Notices

  • The sample should be taken at least 48 hours after the start of breastfeeding (natural or formula milk) to ensure that metabolic processes are activated.
  • The best time to take the sample is between 48 and 72 hours after birth. Avoid taking it in the first 24 hours due to physiological fluctuations.
  • For premature infants or patients in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU): The sample is taken at 48 hours post-birth, but is often repeated at 7-14 days of age as a secondary examination due to the high rate of false positives.
  • The child's data must be filled out accurately (gestational age, weight, type of feeding, age in hours, any medications or intravenous solutions received).
