  • Fasting is not required, but it is preferable to avoid eating fish or seafood for 72 hours (3 days) before the sample is taken to get a more accurate picture of the baseline level.
  • Report to the laboratory any amalgam dental fillings and the rate of fish consumption.
  • The sample must be collected in a special metal-free tube (usually a royal purple - EDTA tube) to prevent contamination.
