Conditions & Notices
- Fasting is not required, and the sample can be taken at any time of day.
- It is important to inform the doctor and the laboratory about all HIV medications the patient is taking, and the timing of the last dose.
- The sample must be collected in a special tube (EDTA for plasma) and processed rapidly (plasma separation within 6 hours of collection) to preserve the stability of the viral RNA. Advance arrangements with the laboratory are recommended.
