- Fasting for 8-12 hours is required before the sample is taken, as blood lipids (chylomicrons) may interfere with the accuracy of the coagulation test.
- Blood is drawn into a tube containing a sodium citrate anticoagulant (blue tube).
- The sample must be processed and transported to the laboratory quickly (usually within 4 hours) to ensure the accuracy of the result.
