Conditions & Notices
- Mandatory fasting: You must fast for 8 to 12 hours before the sample is taken. Only water is permitted during this period. Failure to fast renders the fasting glucose test results diagnostically uninterpretable.
- Medication timing: If you are taking medication for diabetes (tablets or insulin), consult your doctor about when to take it on the morning of the test. Typically, the morning dose is to be delayed until after the sample has been drawn and you have eaten.
- Avoid strenuous physical activity: 24 hours before the test, as it may affect blood sugar levels.
- General health: If you have an acute illness (such as a severe infection), the results may be temporarily elevated and not reflect your chronic condition. Inform your doctor.
