Wound swab culture and sensitivity testing is a diagnostic laboratory procedure in which a sample of wound tissue or exudate is collected using a sterile swab. The sample is cultured on nutrient media to grow and identify the microorganisms (bacteria, and in some cases, fungi) causing the infection. This is followed by an antibiotic sensitivity test (antibiogram) performed on the isolated bacteria to determine which antibiotics the bacteria are sensitive (effective) or resistant (ineffective).
