A quantitative test that measures the concentration of vitamin K1 (phylloquinone) in blood serum. Vitamin K1 is the primary plant-based form of vitamin K, absorbed from food (especially green leafy vegetables) and dependent on dietary fat for absorption. It acts as an essential cofactor for the enzyme gamma-glutamyl carboxylase, which activates clotting proteins in the liver (factors II, VII, IX, and X) and calcium-regulating proteins in bones (osteocalcin) and blood vessels.
