This test uses Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) technology for the qualitative and/or quantitative detection of Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV) DNA in clinical samples. Common samples include swabs from the base of skin vesicles (fluid-filled blisters), blood, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), or eye fluids. PCR is the most sensitive and rapid method for diagnosing active infection, whether primary infection (chickenpox) or reactivation (shingles).
