The Quantiferon-TB Gold test is an in vitro immunoassay (IGRA - Interferon-Gamma Release Assay) blood test used to detect latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI). It measures the level of interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) secreted by immune T cells in the patient's blood when stimulated by specific antigens of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It does not react with the BCG vaccine or most other non-TB mycobacteria, thus increasing its specificity.
