The blood glucose dynamics test is considered the gold standard for diagnosing type 2 diabetes and prediabetes (impaired glucose tolerance) in non-pregnant individuals. After fasting for 8–14 hours, plasma glucose levels (fasting value) are measured. The patient then consumes a solution containing 75 grams of glucose, and glucose is measured again exactly two hours later. The test mimics the body's response to a sugar challenge similar to a high-carbohydrate meal.
