Newborn Comprehensive Metabolic Screening

A comprehensive newborn screening test using tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) allows for the analysis of minute quantities of numerous metabolites (amino acids, organic acids, long-chain fatty acids, and others) from a very small blood sample. Abnormalities in the patterns of these metabolites are detected, indicating the presence of inborn errors of metabolism (IEM).
