Immunohistochemical (IHC) testing reveals the nuclear expression of TLE1 (transducin-like enhancer of split 1). Strong nuclear expression of TLE1 is a highly sensitive and specific marker for synovial sarcoma, a malignant stromal tumor that most commonly arises in the extremities near joints. TLE1 is a transcription factor that aids in predicting the diagnosis when used in conjunction with histological features and other markers. It helps differentiate synovial sarcoma from other spindle-shaped soft tissue tumors.
