Immunohistochemical (IHC) assay for epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) aims to detect overexpression of EGFR protein on the membrane of cancer cells. It is used as a preliminary or confirmatory indicator in some protocols prior to molecular testing (such as mutation screening) and is of particular importance in non-small cell lung cancer, colorectal cancer, and head and neck cancers.
