The Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) is a functional dynamic test that assesses the body's ability to regulate blood glucose in response to a standardized oral glucose load. It measures blood plasma glucose levels at specific times: before ingestion (fasting), one hour, and two (and often three) hours after ingestion. It detects impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) or gestational diabetes, where fasting glucose levels are normal but rise abnormally after the glucose load and then slowly decline.
