A toxicological chemical test that measures the concentration of elemental mercury (Mercury - Hg) in a urine sample, usually collected over 24 hours, or creatinine-corrected. The urinary mercury level is the best and most common indicator of chronic or sub-chronic occupational exposure to inorganic (salts) and elemental (vapor) forms of mercury. Urinary mercury excretion reflects the active body load in the kidneys and blood. It is routinely used to monitor mercury-exposed workers and diagnose occupational poisoning.
