  • Fasting is not required.
  • It is preferable to collect the first urine sample in the morning (first urination after waking up), as it is more concentrated and provides more consistent results.
  • Collect the sample in the clean, sterile container provided by the laboratory. It is preferable to collect the sample midstream (the clean sample).
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours before collecting the sample, as it can temporarily increase protein in the urine.
  • Inform your doctor about all medications you are taking, and if you are a woman, try to avoid collecting the sample during your menstrual period.
