Scientific name: Triple Screen Test
Screening test (not diagnostic) performed on maternal blood sample between weeks 15 and 20 of pregnancy. Measures levels of three markers: Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), and unconjugated estriol (uE3). Results are combined with maternal age to estimate probability of fetal chromosomal disorders and neural tube defects.

Conditions & Notices
- Fasting: Not required.
- Precise timing: The sample should be taken between weeks 15 and 20 of pregnancy (optimum 16-18 weeks). Accuracy depends on knowing the exact gestational age (by ultrasound).
- Essential information: The laboratory must be provided with the gestational age in weeks, the mother's weight, age, presence of diabetes or smoking, and the number of fetuses.
