Right Eye Conjunctival Culture | Lahalak Platform

A precise analysis of right eye discharge to diagnose bacterial infections and identify effective treatment, helping eliminate redness and irritation while restoring your eye health quickly.

Scientific name: Right Eye Conjunctival Culture and Sensitivity Test

A microbiological examination is performed on a swab sample of purulent or mucous discharge from the conjunctiva (the thin membrane lining the eyelid and the inside of the eye) of the right eye. The aim is to isolate and identify the bacteria or fungi causing the infection (bacterial or fungal conjunctivitis), followed by antibiotic susceptibility...

Medical Service Information

Purpose Test

  • To diagnose the exact bacterial or fungal cause of conjunctivitis (pink eye) with purulent discharge in the right eye, especially when initial treatment fails.
  • To determine the most appropriate antibiotic or antifungal treatment through susceptibility testing.
  • To assist in managing severe, chronic, or recurrent conjunctivitis in a single eye.
  • To distinguish bacterial conjunctivitis that requires antibiotics from viral or allergic conjunctivitis, which requires different treatment.

Recommended groups

  • Children and adults with acute conjunctivitis and copious purulent discharge (yellow/green) in the right eye.
  • Patients with conjunctivitis in only one eye (unilateral).
  • Patients with recurrent or chronic conjunctivitis in the right eye.
  • Patients with immunodeficiency who develop symptoms in a single eye.

Symptoms indicative

  • Severe redness in the white part of the right eye (sclera) and inner eyelid.
  • Thick yellow or green discharge from the right eye that sticks to the eyelids, especially after sleep.
  • Swelling of the right eyelid.
  • Pain or a burning/"gritty" sensation in the right eye.
  • Sensitivity to light (photophobia) in the affected eye.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • Severe conjunctivitis with copious discharge in one eye.
  • Cases not responding to initial broad-spectrum antibiotic treatment.
  • Chronic or recurrent cases in the same eye.
  • Patients who wear contact lenses and develop symptoms in one eye.
  • Conjunctivitis in newborns.
  • Viral (most common, especially with watery discharge).

Normal Levels

  • A healthy conjunctiva is relatively sterile or contains very few non-pathogenic bacteria. Therefore, the normal (negative) result is "no growth of pathogenic organisms."
  • Any growth of pathogenic bacteria (e.g., Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae) in the right eye sample is considered positive and indicates an active bacterial infection that requires treatment.

Conditions & Notices

  • Fasting is not required.
  • No eye drops or ointments (antibiotics, cortisone) should be placed in the right eye at least two hours before the sample is taken.
  • The sample must be taken by a doctor or specialized nurse using sterile instruments.
  • It is preferable to take the sample in the morning before washing the face, or when secretions are abundant.
  • The affected eye (right) must be clearly specified in the analysis request.
