- Fasting is not required. The sample can be taken at any time.
- The sample should be drawn into a tube with a suitable anticoagulant (usually EDTA).
- The patient's identity must be clearly visible on the tube and in the order, because an error in identification could lead to fatal blood transfusion errors.
