Scientific name: Quantitative Plasma Amino Acids Analysis
Quantitative analysis of amino acids in plasma is a specialized assay using high-resolution techniques such as high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) or tandem mass spectrometry (Tandem MS). It accurately measures the concentrations of essential and non-essential amino acids in a blood plasma sample (typically more than 35–40 amino acids). I...

Conditions & Notices
- Mandatory fasting: Infants must fast for 4-8 hours, and children and adults for 8-12 hours, before the sample is taken. Only water is permitted.
- Timing of the sample: It is preferable to collect the sample in the morning.
- Stopping supplements: If the patient is taking synthetic amino acids or special proteins as part of their treatment, consult your doctor about whether you can stop them before the examination. Do not do so without instructions.
- Rapid sample transfer: Plasma must be separated from blood cells as quickly as possible (within 30-60 minutes) and immediately cooled or frozen to prevent continued cell metabolism which could alter the results.
- Hemolysis during blood draw must be avoided, as it releases amino acids from red blood cells and distorts the results.
