- Fasting is not required. Blood can be drawn at any time.
- • Timing of the sample: To detect acute infection, it is preferable to draw the sample one to two weeks after the onset of symptoms (such as rash) when IgM is at its peak.
- If a recent infection is suspected with an inconclusive result, a second sample may be recommended after 1-2 weeks to show an elevated titer (seroconversion) of IgG.
- The doctor should be informed if the patient is pregnant or has a history of blood disorders.
