- Fasting is not generally required for blood mercury testing, but it is recommended to improve measurement accuracy. Consulting the laboratory is advised.
- For blood samples: Use special metal-free tubes (such as tubes with a royal blue cap containing EDTA). Ensure that the correct equipment is used to prevent contamination.
- For the saliva sample: It should be collected in a special container free of metals, preferably in the morning at least one hour before brushing teeth or eating or drinking.
- Avoid eating fish and seafood for 48-72 hours prior to the test to obtain a reading that reflects baseline exposure and not recent dietary intake.
- Inform the laboratory of your occupation and any known sources of mercury exposure.
