Conditions & Notices

  • Fasting is not required, as the sample is tissue (biopsy or excision).
  • The biopsy specimen must be preserved immediately in 10% formalin. Avoid fixation with alcohol as it may destroy some melanin antigens.
  • This analysis is routinely requested on all skin lesions suspected of melanoma, and on sentinel lymph node biopsies of melanoma patients.
  • The markers are often requested as part of a diagnostic package (panel) together.
