CD59 (Protectin) Lymphocyte Test | Lahalak Platform
A test for the CD59 protein, which prevents the destruction of healthy blood cells by the immune system. Low levels are a key indicator of specific chronic hemolytic anemias.
Scientific name: Lymphocyte CD59 (Protectin) Surface Marker Test
Flow cytometry is used to assess the expression of CD59 protein (also known as Protectin or MAC-IP) on the surface of lymphocytes and blood cells. CD59 acts as a final inhibitor of the complement system's membrane attack complex (MAC), preventing cell lysis. Its measurement is essential for the diagnosis of paroxysmal nocturnal hemolytic anemia (PN...

Medical Service Information
Conditions & Notices
- Fasting is not required. It is preferable to collect the sample during morning working hours.
- The sample should be collected in an EDTA tube (purple tube) in a sufficient quantity suitable for flow cytometry.
- The analysis should be performed in a specialist laboratory, and is often ordered as part of a complete PNH diagnostic panel (FLAER assay with CD55 and CD59).
- If the patient has recently received a blood transfusion, the laboratory should be informed, as this may temporarily affect the results.
