- Fasting is not required, as the sample is tissue (biopsy or excision).
- The tissue sample must be immediately preserved in 10% formalin.
- This analysis is requested almost routinely when a leiomyoma or GIST is suspected, usually as part of a diagnostic package that includes SMA, Desmin, CD117 (KIT), DOG-1.
