- The fasting requirement does not apply, as the sample is a surgical tissue sample.
- The excised pituitary tissue sample must be immediately preserved in 10% formalin for proper fixation.
- This analysis is routinely requested on all surgically removed pituitary tumor specimens.
- It is often requested as part of a pituitary hormone panel that also includes prolactin, ACTH, TSH, FSH/LH, and transcription markers such as Pit-1 to accurately classify the tumor.
