Conditions & Notices

  • Antibiotics and proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) should be discontinued well in advance of sample collection:
  • Antibiotics: at least 4 weeks.
  • Proton pump inhibitors (such as omeprazole): 1-2 weeks.
  • H2 antihistamines (such as famotidine): 48 hours (as per laboratory instructions).
  • The stool sample must be collected in the sterile container provided by the laboratory, away from contamination by urine or toilet water.
  • The sample must be transported to the laboratory within 24 hours of collection, and preferably refrigerated if transport is delayed.
