- Fasting is not required, but the time of the last meal must be recorded.
- The glucose solution (50 g) should be drunk within 5 minutes.
- Sit and rest in the clinic or laboratory during the one-hour period between drinking the solution and having blood drawn, and avoid physical activity or eating or drinking anything else (except water).
- Accurate timing is very important; the sample should be taken exactly 60 minutes after the solution has been drunk.
