Conditions & Notices
- It is preferable to fast for at least 8 hours before taking the sample, because eating food (especially fats) may lead to a slight and transient increase in GGT levels.
- The doctor should be informed about all medications and dietary supplements being taken, as well as about the habit of drinking alcohol.
- It is not advisable to perform the test immediately after an episode of acute drinking, as the elevation may be temporary and not reflect the chronic condition.
- The doctor may ask you to stop certain medications (such as phenobarbital) several days before the examination if possible, because they raise GRT levels.
