  • Fasting is not required. A blood sample can be drawn at any time.
  • • The doctor should be informed of the date of recent vaccinations (especially against pertussis) because they may temporarily raise the antibody level.
  • • It is preferable to draw two blood samples at a time interval (when infection is suspected): one in the acute phase and another after 2-4 weeks (the convalescent sample) to show a significant increase in titer, which confirms the diagnosis.
  • The sample is blood serum (red tube or SST).
