- Fasting is not required: These tests can be performed at any time without the need to fast.
- Timing of the sample: There is no specific timing. If the goal is to monitor disease activity over time, it is helpful to perform the tests under similar conditions (approximately the same time of day).
- Medication effects: Anti-inflammatory drugs (such as ibuprofen, naproxen) and corticosteroids (such as prednisone) may lower CRP and ESR levels. It is important to inform your doctor about all medications you are taking.
- Other conditions that raise the results: acute infections (such as urinary tract infections), pregnancy, severe anemia, and old age may raise the ESR without being related to arthritis.
