  • Fasting is not required for the test.
  • The blood sample should be collected in suitable tubes (often tubes containing the anticoagulant EDTA for the cell tube, and tubes without the anticoagulant for the serum tube).
  • The request must be accompanied by a history of previous blood transfusions, a history of pregnancy, and any previous blood transfusion reactions.
  • It is best to have the test done within 72 hours before a planned blood transfusion if the patient has had a blood transfusion or pregnancy in the previous three months.
