How the Test is Performed
- The uterus is divided into four imaginary quadrants.
- Ultrasound measures the deepest vertical pocket of fluid in each quadrant.
- The measurements are summed to calculate the total Index (AFI).
When is it Recommended?
- If the abdomen size is smaller or larger than expected for gestational age.
- High-risk pregnancies or maternal diabetes.
- Decreased fetal movement reported by the mother.
