Total Testosterone Test

This test measures the total concentration of testosterone in the blood serum. This measurement includes both "free" (biologically active) testosterone and testosterone bound to plasma proteins, particularly sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) and albumin. Measuring total testosterone is the primary and essential test for assessing male hormonal status and is often followed by other tests (such as free testosterone, LH, FSH) if abnormal results are found.
