Serum Iron Test

Iron (iron-fe) testing measures the concentration of free iron in blood serum. Iron is essential for the formation of hemoglobin in red blood cells, myoglobin in muscles, and many enzymes. This test measures the amount of iron available for immediate use but does not reflect the body's total iron stores, which are measured by ferritin testing.
