Serum Amylase Test

An enzymatic test to measure the activity of the amylase enzyme in blood serum. Primarily used as a preliminary diagnostic tool for suspected acute pancreatitis, as its levels rise significantly within hours of symptom onset. It may also be elevated in other conditions such as salivary gland disorders.
