Immunohistochemical (IHC) testing is performed on tissue samples to detect the expression of prostate-specific antigen (PSA). PSA is a serine protease secreted by epithelial cells of the prostate gland. It is a highly specific histological marker for prostate tumors and is primarily used to confirm the histological diagnosis of prostate cancer, particularly in evaluating metastatic cancer of unknown origin and differentiating it from other tumors.
