Beta Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin (β-hCG) analysis is a blood or urine test that measures the level of the hCG hormone, which is primarily secreted during pregnancy. The body begins producing this hormone after the fertilized egg implants in the uterine wall, and it is usually detectable about 11 days after fertilization through blood or 12–14 days through urine. This test is commonly used to confirm early pregnancy and to diagnose certain abnormal pregnancies, such as ectopic or molar pregnancies. It can also be used to monitor some types of cancer, such as testicular or ovarian cancer.
