The anti-reticulin antibody (ARA) test is a serological test that detects the presence of IgA autoantibodies directed against reticulin fibers in connective tissue, particularly those in the lamina propria of the small intestine wall. It is typically performed using immunosorbent assay (IFA). Formerly used primarily for the diagnosis of celiac disease, it has largely been superseded by more sensitive and specific tests such as anti-tissue transglutaminase antibody (tTG-IgA). It still serves a complementary role in some complex diagnostic cases.
