Blood plasma glucose levels are measured exactly two hours after the start of a normal meal or, in a diagnostic context, after ingestion of a standard glucose solution (75 g) as part of an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). After two hours, the glucose level in a healthy individual should return to approximately the fasting level. This measurement is used to diagnose diabetes and prediabetes (in the case of OGTT) and to monitor blood glucose control in patients with diabetes (after a normal meal).
