Liquid-based cytology (LBC) is a technique used to analyze cervical smear cells. Instead of directly scanning the smear onto a slide, the cells are collected in a special liquid medium, allowing for the removal of impurities (such as blood, inflammatory cells, and mucus) and the creation of a thin, homogeneous layer of cells for microscopic examination. This process significantly improves diagnostic accuracy and reduces the percentage of uninterpretable samples.
