A diagnostic microbiological examination involves collecting a sample of fluid secreted by the prostate gland (prostatic secretion), usually via rectal massage. The sample is cultured on selective culture media for aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. The aim is to isolate and identify the microorganisms causing bacterial prostatitis (such as Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, and Enterococcus) and to perform an antibiogram (antibiotic susceptibility test) on the isolates to determine the optimal treatment.
