A complete and detailed histopathological examination of a large tissue specimen, an entire organ, or extensive surgical resection (e.g., mastectomy, partial colectomy, hysterectomy). The processed specimen is prepared in more than four cassettes (paraffin molds) to represent all important anatomical regions: the primary tumor, depth of invasion, proximal and distal surgical margins, blood vessels and nerves, and regional lymph nodes. The examination may include special immunohistochemical or molecular staining.
