An immunoassay (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay - ELISA) detects the presence of galactomannan antigen in blood serum or bronchopulmonary fluid. Galactomannan is a polysaccharide found in the hyphae of the Aspergillus fungus and is an important laboratory marker for supporting the diagnosis of invasive aspergillosis, particularly in severely immunocompromised patients.
