Intraoperative consultation is a rapid technique in which the surface of a fresh tissue sample is gently pressed onto a microscope slide (imprint) or scraped with a needle or scalpel to collect cells (scraping). The cells transferred onto the slide are quickly stained (usually with a stain such as Diff-Quik or Toluidine Blue) and examined microscopically within minutes. It aims to provide a rapid cytological assessment of the presence or absence of malignant cells without the need for whole-cell paraffin treatment.
